Rudder – Day 9 – 2 hours

Trimmed and finished the rudder horn brace and fabricated the rudder bottom attach strips.

A common mistake with the rudder horn brace is to trim too much off it. When you drill it the holes end up being too close to the edge. Thanks to some other builder’s who kept excellent logs, I avoided this:

Here’s a shot of the brace attached and match drilled to the rudder:

Next up was to fabricate the attach strips. This was pretty simple. Van’s supplies a strip of aluminum that is already the correct width and you just trim the length and cut out the angle at te front of it (to fit against the horn brace):

Then just match drill them using the bottom rib and skin as a guide:
